Summary
Zetafax supports Class 1, 1.0, 2 and 2.0 fax modems. While these are general standards, there are a number of differences between different makes of modems, and there is ongoing work to ensure that Zetafax works as well as possible with different modems and with different firmware revisions for the modems.
Zetafax performs a number of special processes with U.S. Robotics (USR) modems to optimise their performance with Zetafax. This document gives some guidelines to help ensure the best operation for systems using USR modems.
More information
Check that you have the most recent firmware available for the modem - manufacturers often update the fax compatibility with firmware revisions. These can be obtained from the manufacturers website http://www.usr.com/.
Once you have updated the firmware, return to the default configuration settings for a USR modem by doing the following:
- Stop the Zetafax server.
- Launch the Zetafax Configuration program ZFSETUP.EXE, select Configure Devices and delete the current device, then close the program.
- Edit the file zfax\SYSTEM\Z-DB\SETUP.INI (where 'zfax' is the name of the share where the Zetafax server files are installed). Find the section headed [FCLASS-1] and delete the entire section. Save the file.
- Run the Zetafax Configuration program again and select Devices. Add a new device, selecting the specific USR model. If it's not listed choose " USRobotics fax modem" . Click 'All Settings' and then the 'More...' button, and set the 'Maximum baud rate for receiving faxes' to 9600. Ensure that "Use as Class 1" is selected. Close the program.
- Restart the Zetafax Server, then test the modem both sending and receiving faxes.
