Instances under which you cannot update the Zetafax Server

The version 8 Zetafax server is only supported on NT4, Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Server 2003. Support for other operating systems has been dropped and the server will not run.

Updating an installed version of the Zetafax Server

If you are updating a previous installed version, this is the procedure to follow:

  1. Shut down the Zetafax server or stop the Zetafax server service with the Services applet in Control Panel.
  2. Run the installation program (SETUP.EXE) from the CD-ROM or the download of the new version. When prompted, select "Update Selected Files".

Note: Ensure only "Programs and Fonts" is checked on the "Select Components" dialog, before clicking "Next", as checking other options will cause those components to be re-installed and user defined settings will be lost.

  1. At the end of the update process, you will be asked to modify your license details. If the dialog doesn't appear automatically, use the Zetafax Configuration to modify your license.
  2. In the "Modify license details" dialog, click on "Install add-on." and enter the upgrade number you were given when you purchased the new version.
  3. Click "Next" and check the details in all the ensuing dialogs. When you click on "Finish", Zetafax will be ready to be re-registered. You can do this by starting the Zetafax server and then opening a Zetafax client. The client will automatically prompt you to send a new registration fax.

Updating Zetafax Server on a clean system

If you are updating to a new version of Zetafax, but the old version is no longer installed, you should follow these instructions:

  1. Run the installation program (SETUP.EXE) from the CD-ROM or download of the new version. When prompted, select "Full Server Installation".
  2. At the end of the installation, you will be asked to enter your license details. If the dialog doesn't appear automatically, use the Zetafax Configuration to add your license.
  3. Enter your Starter system license in the license box. This is the three-part license number that was given to you when you first purchased Zetafax.
  4. Click on "Install add-on." and enter the upgrade number you were given when you purchased the new version. Make sure to also enter any other upgrades you might have obtained in the past (additional lines or users, for instance).
  5. Click "Next" and enter your details in all the ensuing dialogs. When you click on "Finish", your new Zetafax installation will be ready to be registered. You can do this by starting the Zetafax server and then opening a Zetafax client. The client will automatically prompt you to send a registration fax.

Updating the Zetafax Client

Once the server is updated, you are ready to update the Zetafax clients. To do this, log on to each user's PC as the network administrator and ensure the Zetafax client is not running. Select "Workstation Setup" from the Zetafax program group in the Start Menu, and choose "Install client - Standard settings"; this will overwrite the old version of the client with the new version from the newly updated Zetafax server.
