FIX:  Brooktrout SR140 channels hang when sending faxes to certain numbers

Print

ZTN1819

ID: ZTN1819

This Zetafax technical note applies to:

  • Zetafax 2010

Symptom

When sending faxes to certain numbers using a Brooktrout SR140 implementation, the sending channel remains in a sending state indefinitely and the fax is not sent. This issue is seen when the ‘retry on voice answered’ checkbox is unchecked in the ‘Queuing and Retry Parameters’ section of the Zetafax Configuration Program.

Cause

The implementation of the device controller for Brooktrout devices uses a ‘voice’ mode to detect a voice answering a call (to determine whether the recipient is a fax machine). The device controller should then switch back into ‘fax’ mode to continue with the fax communication. This was not occurring when the ‘retry on voice answered’ option was selected when using an SR140 setup and thus caused some unexpected behaviour.

Resolution

An update is available. Please contact Equisys technical support for more details.

Status

This issue was corrected in Zetafax 2011.
