FIX: Performance monitor counters missing in x64 systems
ZTN1943
ID: ZTN1943
This Zetafax technical note applies to:
- Zetafax 2010 and above installed on x64 systems
Symptom
After installing the Zetafax Server on a 64-bit system, the performance monitor counters are missing.
Cause
The Zetafax Server performance monitor counters get produced using a 32-bit DLL which is not compatible with the default settings of the performance monitor shortcut of a 64-bit operating system.
Resolution
The recommended solution is to run the Zetafax Server as a service (‘Zetafax Server Monitor’ is displayed on the title bar of the Zetafax Server monitoring application). The instructions below should then be followed to enable the performance counters to work:
- A Windows service exists, named ‘Performance Counter DLL Host’. This is disabled by default. Starting this service will allow the default 64-bit performance monitor shortcut to see the Zetafax performance counters.
Should you wish to run the Zetafax Server as an application (‘Zetafax Server’ is displayed on the title bar of the Zetafax Server monitoring application), you will need to follow the step below:
- A 32-bit performance monitor application exists inside the C:\Windows\SysWOW64 folder. Running the ‘perfmon.msc’ inside this folder will display the missing performance monitor counters.
Status
This has been identified by Equisys as a problem with the software versions given above.
