FIX: Rendering (doctiff.exe) add-on uses incorrect fonts.
ZTN1352
ID: ZTN1352
This Zetafax technical note applies to:
- Zetafax version 8.0 or later
Symptom
When the rendering add-on renders certain documents, for example PDF documents, the font used is a different style and/or size from the original font used. This occurs even when the original font is embedded in the document. Additional symptoms may include overlapping characters, and text which is drawn off the edge of the page.
Cause
The document rendering software does not perform font-rendering, but instead relies on the system to provide and render the specified font. If the font does not exist on the system, the document rendering software uses a substitute font which may be of a different style and size.
Resolution
To resolve this problem install the fonts used by the document on the Zetafax server. To determine the fonts that a PDF document is using, follow this procedure:
- Open the document in Adobe Reader 6.0.
- Go to the File | Document Properties. menu
- Click on the Fonts section
- Note all the fonts used by the documents (embedded as well as not embedded)
Open Control Panel / Fonts on the Zetafax server. The font names used by the document must match the font names installed in Control Panel. Install the missing fonts.
Refer to the Microsoft Knowledge Base article 314960 HOW TO: Install or Remove a Font in Windows XP for step-by-step instructions.
