FIX: Zetadocs Server does not Split Malformed PDF Documents

ZTN4464

ID: ZTN4464

This Zetadocs technical note applies to:

  • Zetadocs for NAV 8.0

Symptom

When a PDF document is placed in the Batch Split folder, it is not split and the document is left there unmodified. This can happen with certain types of scanner.

Looking at the ZdDocumentConverter.log file, you may see errors containing “PDFAnalyser threw exception. Reason: Potentially not a PDF document” or “Document to split contains no pages”. This error will be reproducible with all documents from a certain scanner. Other PDF documents from other sources will work properly.

This is a very rare issue.

Cause

The Zetadocs Server service is unable to process PDF documents that have a malformed /Pages node. Some scanners do not output a well formed PDF documents, and Zetadocs Server cannot read these documents properly. An error gets written to the Zetadocs Server log stating that the PDF may be malformed.

Resolution

Updating scanner drivers may resolve this issue.

This fault was corrected in a hotfix, which is available by contacting Equisys Technical Support and quoting the technote number ZTN4464. This includes an updated third party library for handling PDF documents.

Status

This behaviour was corrected in the hotfix detailed above.
