Summary
Microsoft Office includes a tool called Microsoft Office Document Imaging which can be used for optical character recognition (OCR). This document will explain how to configure the Zetafax client to use Microsoft Office Document Imaging for OCR.

Before configuring Zetafax you should check to see if the Microsoft Office Document Imaging component is installed on the workstation. To do this check the following:
Office 2007
- Browse to " < Program Files> \Common Files\microsoft shared\MODI\12.0\ " (This path may vary according to your system installation).
- Check to see if the ‘Mspview.exe’ file exists. If the file exists then continue to the section titled ‘Configuring the Zetafax client’, if it doesn’t appear to be on the system then continue to the next section.
Office XP
- Browse to " < Program Files> \Common Files\Microsoft Shared\MSPaper\ " (This path may vary according to your system installation).
- Check to see if the ‘Mspview.exe’ file exists. If the file exists then continue to the section titled ‘Configuring the Zetafax client’, if it doesn’t appear to be on the system then continue to the next section.
Installing Microsoft Office Document Imaging:
- Start Add/Remove Programs, highlight the version of Office you have installed and click Change.
- When prompted to select the type of installation, select ‘Add or Remove Features’ then click ‘Next’.
- When prompted to specify the Features to install, scroll down to ‘Office Tools’, right click ‘Microsoft Office Document Imaging’ and select ‘Run all from My Computer’ (As below).
- Once the feature has been selected click ‘Update’ or ‘Continue’ to install it. Once installed continue onto the next section.
Configure the Zetafax client OCR settings follow these steps:
- Start the Zetafax client and select the menu option Options|OCR.
- The ‘OCR Options’ dialog box appears (As below).
- Set the ‘Program’ entry to ‘(other)’ and enter the command line to launch the Microsoft Office Document Imaging program for the appropriate version of Office installed.
- Close the dialog by clicking the OK button.
e.g. “C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\microsoft shared\MODI\12.0\MSPVIEW.EXE”
Zetafax is now configured to use Microsoft Office Document Imaging for OCR, to verify that it works step through the following.
- Within the Zetafax client select a fax that you have received and wish to use OCR with. From the menu select Tools|OCR. This will launch the Microsoft Office Document Imaging program with the selected fax open (as below).
- From the menu select ‘File|Send Text to Word…’ to create a work document from the received fax.
NOTE: The accuracy of the word document created from the received fax will depended on the size of the text, and the quality of the fax image.
