This technical note describes how to install the Zetafax Client Application on a Terminal Server so that the Zetafax Client and Zetafax Office Addins are available to all users.

In Zetafax 2014 and later, the following components of the Zetafax Client Applications can be used in a Terminal Services environment:

  • Zetafax Client (inc. Zetafax Printer)
  • Outlook Extensions
  • Word Addin (for Office 2003 – 2010)
  • Excel Addin (for Office 2003 – 2010)

Installing applications on a Terminal Server

To ensure that an application is installed correctly to work in a multiuser environment, you must put the RD Session Host server into a special installation mode before you install the application on the RD Session Host server. This special installation mode ensures that the correct registry entries and .ini files that are needed to support running the application in a multiuser environment are created during the installation process.

You can put an RD Session Host server into this special installation mode by using either of the following:

  • Install Application on Remote Desktop Session Host tool under Programs in Control Panel. This tool will run a wizard to help install the application. (Windows Server 2008 or later)
  • Execute the “Change user /install” command at a command prompt. You will have to start the installation of the application manually from the command prompt after that.

After the application is installed, you must put the RD Session Host server into execution mode before remote users begin using the application. The Install Application on Remote Desktop Session Host tool will automatically put the RD Session Host server into execution mode when it is finished running. To put the RD Session Host server into execution mode from a command prompt, use the “Change user /execute” command.

Applications to install

There are two programs that you need to install, in the order below, using either of the methods mentioned above. These can be found in your Zetafax Server program files or you Zetafax Server downloaded install package.

  1. Install “.\Program Files\Zetafax Server\System\Prerequisites\vcredist_x86.exe”  (or vcredist_x64 if you are on a 64-bit machine)
  2. Install “.\Program Files\Zetafax Server\System\_zfclientrun.exe”
  3. If you select the Custom install option, you should see the Zetafax Client, Outlook Integration and Office Addins as available features.  There should be no other components visible.
