HOWTO: Run Zetadocs over multiple NAV instances

ZTN4569

This Zetadocs technical note applies to:

  • Zetadocs for NAV 8.0+
  • Customers will multiple NAV instances

Summary

This technote describes the extra setup steps needed to enable batch delivery correctly with multiple instances of NAV / NAS.

Zetadocs Delivery requires various components to be installed on the NAV / NAS server, when more than server is being used, i.e. in a load balancing scenario, then these steps need to be replicated on each server.

More information

If this technote is not applied to all NAV instances then the users may encounter intermittent batch delivery issues, this is due to Zetadocs not being set up for that NAV instance.

Install Zetadocs on all servers

For each instance of NAV / NAS the following installs should be run on the server:

  • Zetadocs Client
  • Zetadocs API Runtime
  • Zetadocs Server Extensions

Once these have been installed it is worth checking the installed applications on windows to see that the following is listed:

Zetadocs NAV Server Extensions

<Date of install>

<Version of NAV installer>

Zetadocs NAV Client

<Date of install>

<Version of NAV installer>

Zetadocs API Runtime

<Date of install>

<Version of NAV installer>

These steps need to be run on every instance of NAV / NAS.

Disable Task Scheduler on all but one instance of NAV / NAS

This step applies to NAV 2017 onwards when in use with Zetadocs Server side delivery.

Since NAV 2017, the background processing of the Job Queue Entries is performed by the NAV Task Scheduler. Zetadocs Server side delivery relies on those Job Queue entries but is designed to work with one Task Scheduler only.

On only one instance of NAV / NAS, the Task scheduler should be enabled. On all other instances of NAV / NAS related to the same database, the Task Scheduler should be disabled using the Microsoft Dynamics Server management tool. For more information about the Task scheduler, refer to https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics-nav/task-scheduler

To test that only one Task scheduler is active, please follow the steps below:

  1. Disable the Task scheduling on this last instance of NAV / NAS
  2. Exercise Zetadocs Server side delivery
  3. In the Job Queue Entries page, ensure that the Zetadocs Job Queue Entries are left un-processed
  4. Re-enable the Task Scheduling on the NAV / NAS instance
