INFO: Protection against dialling 'in-use' numbers

ZTN1506

ID: ZTN1506

This Zetafax technical note applies to:

  • Zetafax 2006 and later

Summary

This document provides an overview of the protection against 'in-use' numbers function.

In order to enable the functionality described below, you will be required to manually edit the setup.ini file found in the < Zetafax install folder> \System\Z-DB\ folder.  It is recommended that you make a backup of this file before proceeding.

More information

Zetafax Server 2006 and later now provides the ability to queue faxes that are scheduled to be sent to numbers that are known to be in-use.  Consider the following example:

The Zetafax Server simultaneously receives two requests to send a fax to the same number.  If the remote device is a single line fax machine or modem, one of these two fax attempts will return 'Phone number busy' and will be re-queued to be sent at a later time.  Any device that is attempting to dial a number which is known to be busy cannot be used to send other faxes.  To avoid this situation, you can protect against dialling 'in-use' numbers.  This can be done by the following mechanism:

  1. Open the SETUP.INI file located in the < Zetafax Server install folder> \System\Z-DB\ folder.
  2. Add the following line to the [QUEUEMAN] paragraph

QueueWhenNumberBusy: Yes

Please note that this functionality may increase the overall time taken to send a series of faxes to a single fax number if the remote fax device is capable of receiving simultaneous transmissions, i.e. it is a multi-line/multi-channel device.
