INFO: Sequence of modem initialisation parameters

ZTN1317

ID: ZTN1317

This Zetafax technical note applies to:

  • Zetafax 5.5 and later

Summary

Under normal circumstances, the settings in the Devices section of the Zetafax Configuration are sufficient to configure a modem. However, some modems and switch/PBX combinations require extra commands, which can be inserted directly into the Zetafax Configuration file, SETUP.INI.

This technical note explains the sequence of these settings.

More information

The following parameters in SETUP.INI can be used to pass configuration commands to the modem

  • CheckInit1
  • CheckInit2
  • SendInit
  • RecdInit

More information on the settings in SETUP.INI can be found in the information file zfax\system\z-db\SETUP.WRI (where zfax is the name of the Zetafax share).

General check

Every few seconds, the Zetafax modem device driver (DEVFC.EXE) checks that the modem is present and working by running the following commands:

  1. CheckInit1 commands
  2. General initialisation commands based on the settings in the Zetafax Configuration (setting fax class for instance)
  3. CheckInit2 commands

Sending faxes

When a fax is about to be sent, the Zetafax device driver performs these checks:

  1. General check (as above)
  2. General sending-related commands based on the settings in the Zetafax Configuration (setting the modem to send)
  3. SendInit commands

Receiving faxes

When an incoming call is detected, the Zetafax device driver performs the following checks:

  1. General check (see above)
  2. General sending-related commands based on the settings in the Zetafax Configuration (setting the modem to receive)
  3. ReceiveInit commands
