Summary

Zetafax 2008 is now available, and is released to customers over the update service and CD.

This technical note provides a brief description of what has changed in Zetafax since version 2007 SP2, and how to update your system to the latest version.

More information

Zetafax 2008 provides a number of new features and resolves a large number of issues that have been reported in previous versions.

New features include:

  • Support for new platforms (Windows Server 2008 64-bit and 32-bit, Windows Server 2003 64-bit, Lotus Domino 8), to keep the product current.
  • Online registration, to improve protection against fraudulent use and simplify the registration process
  • Outlook 2007 support extended to Citrix/Terminal Services
  • Simplified installation of SalesLogix integration (for use with Zetadocs for SalesLogix, currently available in North America only)
  • Enhanced rendering for Microsoft Office documents at the fax server, to simplify installation and improve system reliability
  • Sent items folder, to improve retrieval by users of faxes sent using the Zetafax Client
  • Archive search, to improve retrieval of faxes by administrators from the compliance archive
  • Sending direct from scanners, to improve usability when sending paper documents
  • Support for Brooktrout PCI Express boards for Primary Rate ISDN (PRI)

The major  problems resolved in this release include:

  • Unable to send TIFF file attachments using document rendering engine with the email gateway
  • Sending using eCopy integration omits scanned document, sending coversheet only
  • Silent uninstall displays prompt dialog if DELUSERDATA option specified
  • Sending using the Zetafax Printer on Windows 2003 server adds a watermark image on each page of the printed document
  • Installing Zetafax Server on Exchange Server 2000 or 2003 computer attempts to install the messaging component prerequisites (MAPICDO) in error
  • Zetafax Printer intermittently changes to “offline” state on Terminal Services systems
  • Running the Zetafax Configuration program on another computer (Remote Administration) causes the program to terminate (crash).
  • Printing using a page range (eg “3-5”) using the Zetafax Client and Zetafax Viewer does not work correctly
  • Able to associate two Zetafax user accounts with the same network login name
  • Significant improvements to rendering quality for images when using the document rendering engine (DOCTIFF)
  • Sending multi-part MIME files using Exchange 2007 can cause the Zetafax Server to terminate (crash).
  • Hold for preview option ignored when sending from Zetafax Client, with fax being queued for sending immediately
  • Unable to send to fax numbers stored with international number prefix (eg “+1 …”) when using Zetafax email gateway with Exchange 2007
  • Zetafax Server intermittently does not start correctly on some systems, displaying message “unable to load filtre.dat” repeatedly in server monitor window
  • Unable to send to recipients from ODBC database or text file, as Next button disabled in addressing dialog
  • Unable to forward faxes from Zetafax Client Inbox to fax recipients
  • Option in Zetafax Viewer to forward messages via email is still available on systems without Microsoft Outlook or other MAPI email client installed
  • Receiving an SMS message can cause the Zetafax Server to terminate (crash)
