PRB: Acrobat Reader 4.05 does not render PDF documents through the mail gateway

This Zetafax technical note applies to:
- Zetafax 6 and later
- Adobe Acrobat Reader 4.05
Symptom
Users report faxes containing PDF documents are rejected by the Zetafax server with error rendering.
Cause
The version of Acrobat Reader installed on the Zetafax server is 4.05.
Resolution
To render PDF documents you need to install Acrobat Reader version 5.0. This is free for download from http://www.adobe.com/.
You will then need to remove Adobe Acrobat Reader 3.0 from the list of installed applications and then re-add it. To achieve this follow the instructions below:
- Start the Zetafax configuration program.
- Navigate to 'Server settings' and launch the 'Mail gateway' option.
- Click the 'Rendering' button and select Adobe Acrobat Reader 3.0 from the list of 'Installed Applications' on the 'Applications' tab and click 'Delete'.
- Highlight Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0 from the list of 'Available Applications' and click 'Install'.
- Users will now be able to submit single PDF attachments within the body of an email.
Note: Multiple PDF attachments are at present not supported through the mail gateway.
