PRB: Brooktrout Analogue fax board fails to send and receive faxes
ZTN1804
ID: ZTN1804
This Zetafax technical note applies to:
- Zetafax 2010
- Brooktrout Analogue (TRxStream based) fax board
- European analogue phone line
Symptom
When sending a fax you may see an error in the log which states “Error: connection to remote host()”
Incoming calls are either not answered or the log displays the same error.
Cause
Despite setting the board’s country code to ‘European Community’ during the installation, it may still be using some settings which are intended to be used on US phone lines.
Resolution
The configuration must be changed to use European settings.
- Check the phone line is actually active by connecting an analogue phone to it and making outgoing/incoming calls.
- Stop the Zetafax Server if it is already running.
- Run the Brooktrout Configuration Tool from Start | Programs.
- Select ‘Advanced Mode’.
- Under the Call Control section, select the module of the board e.g. Module 0x2.
- On the right pane, click on a Port tab and set it to the following:
Protocol – Analog - Protocol file – analog_loopstart_europe.lec
- Country variant – CTR21
- Click ‘Copy settings to all ports’.
- Click on Save on the top toolbar followed by Apply.
- Close the Brooktrout Configuration Tool and start the Zetafax Server.
Status
This has been identified by Equisys as a problem with the software versions given above.
