PRB: Rendering add-on fails on Terminal Services server
ZTN1314
ID: ZTN1314
This Zetafax technical note applies to:
- Zetafax Version 8 Rendering add-on
- Windows Terminal Services
Symptoms
When the rendering add-on (DOCTIFF) renders a document attachment, the following error occurs in the Zetafax server log:
DOCTIFF - (E) - DIB bitmap creation failed, LastError = 8
And then
QUEUEMAN - (E) - Error converting message (0xF206)
This error can occur on a machine which has Terminal Services installed, even if they are not activated.
Cause
DOCTIFF creates a bitmap which is used to render each page of the document to graphic format. The size of the bitmap is fairly large and on some Terminal Services systems the bitmap cannot be created due to resource limitations.
Resolution
Uninstall Terminal Services from the server on which Zetafax is installed, or install the Zetafax Server on a non-Terminal Services machine.
Workaround
On some systems reducing the display colour depth from 24-bit or 32-bit colour to 16-bit colour fixes the issue because less overhead is required to create the bitmap.
On systems with low-spec video cards, upgrading the video card to at least 8MB of video memory may fix the problem.
Status
This has been identified by Equisys as a problem with the software versions given above.
