PRB: Web client address searches return no results

ZTN1299

ID: ZTN1299

This Zetafax technical note applies to:

  • Zetafax 8.0.0.104 and later.

Summary

When using the Zetafax Web client's address book sometimes it may return no matches. This is usually caused by the Web client COM+ package running as a domain account without the correct permissions.

To correct this you will have to change the account under which this COM+ package runs. Which account you use depends on the functionality you want from the address book.

More information

The behaviour of the Web Client's address book depends on the NT account under which the Web Client's COM+ package runs interacts with Microsoft Exchange. The more the COM+ account has access to in Exchange the more functionality the address book will have.

  • If you do not intend to use the Web Client's address book Exchange integration function (you will still have previous recipients) you should use the local system account.
  • If you would like your users to have access to the Exchange Global Address List (GAL) but do not need them to have access to their own contacts then you need to use an NT account that has anonymous logon access to Exchange.
  • If you would like users to have access to their own contacts folder as well as the GAL then you need to use an NT account that has read permissions to everyone's mailbox.

NOTE: You should not choose the built-in Administrator account or a member of the Administrators group as these accounts are specifically denied access to mailboxes. Adding a user to the built-in Exchange servers group will give the NT account access to all mailboxes in Exchange.

You can specify the account during the Web Client's install.  If the Web Client is already installed then you will need to take the following steps:

  1. Make sure you are on the machine that hosts the Web Client.
  2. Open the Components Services MMC snap-in. (This is found in administrative tools)
  3. Go to "Component Services|Computers|My Computer|COM+ Applications".
  4. Find the Zetafax Web Components package and open its properties dialog.
  5. Select the Identity tab, and enter the new User and Password.
  6. Close the properties dialog
  7. Restart the COM+ package by choosing "Shut Down" followed by "Start" from the context menu.
  8. Finally you will need to restart the IIS services. To do this open the IIS snap-in find the local computer and choose "Restart IIS." from the context menu.
