Technical Notes, Zetafax

PRB: You receive an NDR message in an Exchange Server 2007 environment when you send a fax

ZTN1755

ID: ZTN1755

This Zetafax technical note applies to:

  • Zetafax 2009
  • Microsoft Exchange 2007
  • Exclaimer mail utilities 4.6

Symptom

You immediately receive a non delivery report (NDR) when sending a fax from Outlook with the Zetafax Exchange Connector installed with the following details:

550 5.1.1 RESOLVER.ADR.RecipNotFound; not found

Cause

There is an incompatibility with Zetafax messages and certain Transport agents. An example is Exclaimer mail utilities.

You can get a list of the transport agents running on the Hub transport bridgehead, using the get-transportagent cmdlet.

If you see ExclaimerSMTPagent and ExclaimerRoutingAgent or similar this will be the cause of messages not being sent. To confirm this you can temporarily disable these agents by running disable-transportagent and following the shell prompts to disable it. Restart the Exchange Transport service to see if the fax is passed to Zetafax correctly.

Resolution

Open the Exclaimer Control Panel.

  1. Go to the Custom Rules screen and click the “Add Rule” button.
  2. On the Addressing tab, set the “Sender” to “Anyone” and set the “Recipient” to " Message Header Equals" . In the field below enter the following text exactly as it appears including the stars:

  3. To:*IMCEAFAX*

  4. Go to the Disclaimers tab and set the Disclaimer drop-down field to “Don't add disclaimer" .
  5. Press OK
  6. Press Save.

Status

This has been identified by Equisys as a problem with the software versions given above.
