PRB: Zetafax reports not a valid tiff fax file when viewing SMS text message

This Zetafax technical note applies to:

  • Zetafax 2009 (v12)

Symptom

When you attempt to view a text message in the Zetafax Client, you receive a warning similar to the message below:

\\fax-server\zfax\users\username\z-in\~recd972.tmp is not a valid tiff fax file

Cause

The Zetafax Client version listed above treats all messages as fax (tiff) messages.

Resolution

  1. Go to C:\Documents and Settings\< user> \Application Data\Equisys\Zetafax Client and open ZFCLIENT.INI in notepad.
  2. Paste this command in a new line at the bottom:

    3. Tool1: Notepad, " C:\Windows\System32\notepad.exe" " %file%"

    Example:

    [ZETAFAX]

    Type: Init

    Revision: A

    [WORKSTATION]

    UserArea: \\ZETAFAX\ZFAX\USERS\%NAME%\

    SystemArea: \\ZETAFAX\ZFAX\SYSTEM\

    RequestArea: \\ZETAFAX\ZFAX\REQUEST\

    LogArea: %TEMP%

    Help: C:\Program Files\Zetafax\ZETAFAX.CHM

    Tool1: Notepad, " C:\Windows\System32\notepad.exe" " %file%"

  3. Save the file and the restart Zetafax Client.
  4. Now select an SMS in the inbox, go to Tools and select Notepad to view the message.

Status

This has been identified by Equisys as a problem with the software versions given above.
