How do I install the Zetafax Client Applications updates using group policy?


Using the following information, it is possible to remotely install the Zetafax Client Applications updates using group policy in a Windows 2003 or later active directory domain.

 

Before starting

Please assure that the following procedures have been completed:

 

Zetafax Server has been installed and configured on a machine within your network. For more information on how to do this, please refer to the Installation section.

The Zetafax Server folder has been shared out using the Share wizard in Zetafax Server configuration.

The Zetafax update installation has been downloaded from the Updates website and shared out within your network.

Users on Windows Server 2012 and 2008 should ensure the .Net 3.5 Framework has been installed.

 

Note: Before installing the Zetafax Client Applications updates, you need to remove the existing Zetafax Client Group Policy object. This will prevent two Zetafax Client instances appearing in the Add or Remove Programs list.

 

Installing the client applications updates:

To roll out the Zetafax Client Applications updates into your active directory domain. Follow these steps:

 

1.Start up Active Directory Users and Computers on a system within your network (this is normal found on a Domain controller system and you need to login with Domain administrator privileges).

2.Right click domain, and select properties then click on the Group Policy tab.

3.Select default domain policy and click edit.

4.Browse to Computer configuration/Policies/Administrative templates/windows components/ windows installer.

5.Double click "Always install with elevated privileges" and set it to enabled.

6.Browse to User configuration/Administrative templates/windows components/ windows installer.

7.Double click "Always install with elevated privileges" and set it to enabled.

 (a) Browse to computer configuration/Software Settings/Software installations,
 (b) Click Action, New, Package...
 (c) Browse to the Zetafax Printer.msi in the \Zetafax\ZF Printer for Group Policy\ folder.

(NOTE: you must browse to it as a valid network path that can be resolved by all client Systems)
 
If you do not have the ZetafaxPrinter.msi, you can download it from the following link:

http://download.equisys.com/pub/zetafax/v2012/ZFPrinterforGroupPolicy.zip

8.Right click the Zetafax Printer package you have just created and select properties.

9.Click on the deployment tab and verify that "install this application at logon is checked (you may need to click the "assigned" radio button to enable this option).

 (a) Browse to user configuration/Software Settings/Software installations.
 (b) Click Action, New, Package...
 (c) Browse to \Zfax\system\ folder

(NOTE: you must browse to it as a valid network path that can be resolved by all client Systems)

10.Add the ISScript1150.Msi and the Default.msi to the package and press ok.

11.Select assigned then click OK.

12.Right click the Zetafax Client Applications package you have just created and select properties.

13.Click on the deployment tab and verify that "install this application at logon" is checked (you may need to click the "assigned" radio button to enable this option).
