Sending a fax

In order to send a fax you need to tell Zetafax what it is that you want to send. There are four ways of doing this.

 

Using the client program

This option is most convenient when the source is a file. A number of general file formats may be sent directly, including ASCII, DCX, EPS, bitmaps, Epson FX and LQ series, GIF, JPEG, PCX, PICT, Targa, TIFF, Windows metafile bitmaps, and WordPerfect metafile bitmaps. To send a file which is in the correct format you just select it on the main Zetafax window and click Send… (File menu). Alternatively you can drag the file from the Windows Explorer and drop it onto Zetafax.

 

Using the fax printer

This option is most convenient when the source is a document open in an application program, such as a word processor or spreadsheet. To send the document, you use the applications Print facility to 'print' it to the Zetafax fax printer. If the client program is already running, it will then prompt for details of whom to send the fax to. If the program is not running then it will normally be started up automatically, or you will be prompted for the addressing details when you next run it.

 

Using e mail

This option is most convenient when the source is an email message. If you have the Zetafax email gateway option installed, you send the email to a fax recipient which is passed to the Zetafax server for faxing onwards. Any attachments such as word processor files will be converted to graphics at the Zetafax server prior to faxing. This saves tying up clients preparing graphics attachments, but means that if you attach a document file, the application that created it must be installed on the Zetafax server PC (along with any fonts used in the document). Faxing direct from Microsoft Office

Zetafax provides 'add-ins' for Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint that install a Zetafax toolbar button in each program. The Zetafax toolbar button provides a convenient way of faxing a document from each program at a single click.
