The dialing properties determine how the Zetafax Server interprets fax numbers which are entered by users when sending a fax, to convert them into a standard format (called Canonical format) for sending using Zetafax Online.
The Canonical format is an international format for specifying phone numbers. It starts with a “+” symbol and the country code (e.g. “+1” for North American numbers, or “+44” for UK numbers), followed by the area code and phone number. It is most commonly used when calling the number from another country, replacing the “+” symbol with the international access code for the country you are dialing from.
In some countries, area codes include a standard digit at the start (e.g. in the UK, all area codes start with “0”). In most cases this digit is removed when the number is converted to Canonical format, and is not dialed when calling from abroad.
Configuring the dialing properties
•On the Zetafax Server computer, run the Zetafax Configuration program, then click Server Settings.
•Select the Dialing option and click Configure…
•The Dialing properties window will open. Select Use Zetafax Dialing Properties, then in the select the country where the Zetafax Server is located.
Using Zetafax dialing properties is sufficient in most locations, and is generally recommended for simplicity. However in some countries or areas with more complex dialing rules, it may be necessary to use the the Windows telephony settings (TAPI settings) instead. Further details on configuring these settings are given in the online help and other resources if required.
•Enter other details on the page as appropriate for your location. Examples settings are given below for North America and UK – for other countries, see the online help for further advice if needed.
•When the details have been configured, use the Test dialing properties section to ensure that the settings are correct, checking both the Canonical and Dialable forms corresponding to a range of numbers. This should include the following test numbers:
oLocal number entered without the area code
oLocal number entered with the area code
oNational number for another area code
oInternational number entered with the international access code (e.g. 011)
oInternational number entered with a “+” sign
