The user experience on a system configured to use Zetafax Online is very similar to using Zetafax with fax boards or other local devices, as described in the online help within the Zetafax Client and other documentation.
In general the choice of fax device or Zetafax Online is transparent to users, whether they are using the Zetafax Client, Zetafax Email Gateway, or any other method to send and receive faxes. Users do not need to change behavior depending on the configuration chosen, and will usually not be aware of how the server is configured. Where existing systems are migrated from using a local fax device to Zetafax Online, experienced users may notice some minor changes, including the following:
•When sending with a fax board, the message status displayed in the Zetafax Client shows detailed progress for the call. The message icon changes to show call progress, including dialing the fax number, call connection (transmission of the fax), and waiting to retry the number where required. With Zetafax Online the number of states displayed is reduced – the message icon shows when the message is submitted to the Zetafax Online service, but call progress is not reported until the message status changes to success or fail.
•On a system with local fax devices, user with sufficient permissions can display a server status screen showing which faxes are queued for sending, and the faxes which are currently being sent. On a system using Zetafax Online the display shows faxes which have not yet been sent, but the display of which faxes are being sent and faxes awaiting retry is not available.
•Faxes which are sent using Zetafax Online cannot be aborted during transmission.
•The format of the fax header line for faxes sent using Zetafax Online is different from other fax devices.
•There are some differences in how non-standard or variable paper sizes are handled when sending or receiving faxes using Zetafax Online.
•For received faxes, details of the sending fax number may be supplied in a different format, which may alter the subject line for users who receive faxes via email (using the Zetafax Email Gateway).
•For existing systems using automatic routing of received faxes, the format of routing information such as the dialed number or sending number may change – for example giving the full dialed number rather than the last few digits – requiring existing routing rules to be updated.
