Print

ZTN1257

ID: ZTN1257

This Zetafax technical note applies to:

  • Zetafax V8.0.0.104

Symptom

When trying to view a fax in the Zetafax client an error message appears stating that an illegal operation has occurred and that the Zetafax client application will be terminated. This error can also occur when a selected fax is viewed in the preview pane of the Zetafax client.

NOTE: This problem is resolved in version 8.0.1.115. If you wish to download the update version please refer to the Zetafax updates page http://www.equisys.com/support_upd_8.htm

Cause

Some non standard resolution faxes can cause the Zetafax viewer to crash. This error can occur on all supported operating systems.

Resolution

This is a known issue with the Zetafax viewer. Users will still be able to view most other faxes. However if you have a number of received faxes causing this problem you should carry out the following task on the affected systems.

  • On all operating systems it is advisable that the preview pane in the Zetafax client window should be turned off. To do this, uncheck the "preview" option on the "Window" menu of the Zetafax client.
  • On all non Windows XP Pro systems, it is advisable to use Windows Imaging as the default viewer. To do this in the Zetafax client menu go to the Options|Fax Viewer. and configure Imaging as the default fax viewer (as below).

  • On Windows XP Pro systems in the Zetafax client menu go to the Options|Fax Viewer. and then select "(other)" as the viewer, use the browse button to point to the "ZETAFAX.EXE". Make sure both the options are checked (as below) then click OK to exit.

Carrying out the above steps will allow the faxes to be viewed and stop the client from crashing.

Status

This issue has been resolved by Equisys with the updated software versions given above.
