This Zetafax technical note applies to:

  • Zetafax 6.01 and later

Summary

Zetafax 6.01 included support for active ISDN controller cards using the CAPI interface.  AVM B1 cards have been validated with Zetafax in the following configurations:

a)            2 channels send-only - no restriction on transmit speed (ie14.4Kbps)

b)            1 channel receive (or send & receive) - maximum transmission and receive speed reduced to 9600bps

Receiving on one channel while sending or receiving on a second is not supported by the board, and can result in a corrupted fax, hung ISDN controller card or other problem.  Because each device (channel) in Zetafax is independent, Zetafax does not warn if the board is configured in this manner - it is therefore important to ensure that the system is configured correctly with AVM boards.

More information

You can specify that a device is only to be used for outgoing calls in the Zetafax Configuration program, in the device settings.  If you wish to use both channels on the board you should ensure that they are set to "outgoing only".

Note that if instead you configure only one channel and an incoming call is received while the channel is in use, the second caller will generally receive a recorded message saying, " service is unavailable" (or similar), rather than a busy tone.  This is normal operation for ISDN-2 lines.

AVM acknowledge that this is a limitation of the current hardware.  However the C4 controller (4 BRIs) and the next generation of the B1 will not have such a limitation.  For further information, contact AVM.
