PRB: Forward to mail option is greyed out in the Zetafax client

This Zetafax technical note applies to:

• Zetafax 2006 and later

Symptom

When selecting a received fax and choosing to forward it via email, the option To Mail… is grey.

Also choosing to search the Mail Address Book in the Fax sending Wizard, fails to launch Outlook.

Cause

The Zetafax client uses simple MAPI to invoke Outlook on the client PC. On some systems we are unable to detect if Outlook is installed due to a missing registry key.

Resolution

Import the registry key from a system where the above symptoms do not occur.

1. Open REGEDIT on the affected PC and back the following portion of the registry, by choosing File> Export…

2. Logon to a matching system (same OS and version of Office) and export the OptionalComponents key from the following registry location to a file share which is accessible from the affected PC :

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\

3. Switch back to the affected PC and import the exported key by double clicking it and then accepting the registry prompts.
4. The Forward To Mail… option will now be available.

The registry key is supplied below is only for sites that do not have a working client. The preferred option is to export from a similar system.

• Copy all the text between the chevrons (< < < > > > ) into a blank text file.
• Rename the file OptionalComponents.reg.
• Double click OptionalComponents.reg and accept the prompts to enter into the registry.

Status

This has been identified by Equisys as a problem with the software versions given above.
