PRB: GSM modem error reading data from COM port
Print
ZTN1803
ID: ZTN1803
This technical note applies to:
- Zetafax version 12 and above.
- Wavecom Fastrack GSM modem.
Symptom
When you add a Wavecom GSM modem to your Zetafax system you can get the following errors in the server logs upon startup:
Error reading data from COM port (0xF107)
Characters lost in modem reply (0x8)
No response from modem - connection failed
This error causes the modem to not initialize correctly and you are unable to send/receive SMS messages using your GSM device. The device is taken offline in an error state.
Cause
When installing the GSM modem in Zetafax the default Baud rate of 9600 is used to communicate with the device. The device, by default, is set to operate at the speed of 115200 Baud. This causes the Zetafax server to fail to communicate with the modem.
Resolution
Change the device Baud rate in the setup.ini (located in \Zetafax server\System\Z-DB folder). You will need to manually specify the Baud rate for the device in the setup.ini. Under the section [SMS-1] enter the line BaudRate: 115200 on a new line. You will be required to restart the Zetafax server to apply the configuration change.
Status
This has been identified by Equisys as a problem with the software versions given above.
