PRB: Windows Installer message shown when installing the Zetafax client

This Zetafax technical note applies to:

Symptom

When installing the Zetafax client, the installer stalls with no error, but a Windows Installer information message:


Cause

The Installer is attempting to write temporary files to a path with long file names based on the %TEMP% environment variable. If the machine has a policy to disable long file names, the Installer will fail.

Resolution

If you do wish to disable long file names, a workaround is to change the user's TEMP environment variable to a short path (C:\Temp) the installation process will complete correctly.

Status

This has been identified by Equisys as a problem with the software versions given above.
