Cause
The above problems are caused by the following:
1) Zetafax does not check for the MAPI/CDO pre-requisite, even in cases where the Email Gateway might be configured and used.
2) The Email Gateway for Exchange 2007 detects the presence of MAPI incorrectly.
3) MAPI is installed correctly, but is not detected by the Zetafax Server and Zetafax Server does not start.
Resolution
To resolve problems 1 and 2, customers should do the following:
1) Stop the Zetafax Server and the Zetafax Configuration program.
2) Install the patch on the machine. This can be downloaded from the following location or by using the Update Service (Zetafax Server Monitor | Help | Check for Updates...)
Click here to download the patch.
3) Launch the Zetafax Configuration program from the Zetafax program group.
4) Select “Server settings”, from the tree in the left pane.
5) Open the Email Gateway configuration by double clicking on “Email Gateway” in the right pane.
6) Click on “Configure” to launch the configuration window. Select “Microsoft Exchange” in the right pane, and click “Setup”. If prompted for the Exchange version, please select Exchange 2007. This will launch the “Microsoft Exchange Setup Service”.
7) Select the Exchange 2007 server and click “Test Connection”.
8) This will prompt the user to update messaging components (MAPI/CDO), if required. If prompted:
a) Launch Control Panel | Add Remove Programs
b) Uninstall “Messaging API and Collaboration Data Objects 1.2.1”. Please note this step is critical or the MAPI components will not be updated, though the installation might be reported as being successful.
c) Install the components from the displayed web page.
9) Click “Test Connection”. You should see no further warning regarding MAPI/CDO.
10) Start the Zetafax Server.
Problem 3 can be resolved by performing the following steps:
1) Launch the start menu, and click on “Run”.
2) Type “regedit” and press enter.
3) If on a 32-bit system browse to the key “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Equisys\Zetafax Server”, otherwise browse to the key “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Equisys\Zetafax Server”
4) On the right pane, right click and create a new DWORD value.
5) Name the DWORD value to BypassMapiCdoCheck.
6) Set its value to 1.
Important: You should only set the above registry key, only when presence of MAPI has been confirmed on the machine.
Status
This fault has been corrected as an update service patch.
Note: Customers using 64-bit Windows 2003 SP1 may see the following error on trying to install the patch. This is a known problem and will not affect the installation of the patch.
Customers are advised to download and install the correct version of the following update (either ia64 or x64), to avoid related errors in the future:
