Summary

This technical note details the process to install the Zetafax client using group policy in a Windows 2000/2003 active directory domain.

More information

Note: this technical note assumes the following: 

  • Zetafax server has been installed and configured on a machine within your network.
  • The Zetafax server folder has been shared out using the Share wizard in Zetafax server configuration.
  • Zetafax client has been correctly installed on the Zetafax server system.           

To role out the Zetafax Client into your AD domain. Follow these steps.

  1. Start up "Active Directory Users and Computers" on a system within your network (this is normal found on a Domain controller system and you need to login with Domain administrator privileges).
  2. Right click domain, and select properties then click on the Group Policy tab.
  3. Select "default domain policy" and click "edit".
  4. Browse to Computer configuration/Administrative templates/windows components/ windows installer
  5. Double click " Always install with elevated privileges" and set it to enabled.
  6. Browse to User configuration/Administrative templates/windows components/ windows installer
  7. Double click " Always install with elevated privileges" and set it to enabled.
  8. Browse to Computer configuration/Software Settings/Software installations.
  9. click on Action, New, Package...
  10. Browse to the DEFAULT.MSI file in the Zetafax\system folder then click ok (NOTE: you must browse to it as a valid network path that can be resolved by all client Systems.)
  11. Select assigned then Click OK.
  12. Right click the Zetafax client package you have just created and select properties.
  13. Click on the deployment tab and verify that the " install this application at logon is checked.
  14. The Zetafax client will now be installed once the client system has been rebooted.
