New Zetafax device choices

Gareth Williams

Infrastructure systemsThe last few months have been busy for the Zetafax team as we have added or extended our support for several new devices and platforms:

  • Use of Brooktrout SR140 and fax boards on Windows Server 2012 R2
  • New low-profile Brooktrout TR1034 fax boards
  • Dialogic Media Gateway (DMG) devices
  • Dialogic Diva Server fax boards with 64-bit and 32-bit Windows versions

If you are considering changing your IT infrastructure then this blog will tell you all you need to know about these recent improvements.

Maybe you are considering moving your Zetafax server to VMware, or planning to change to an IP phone system?  Perhaps you are upgrading your servers to the latest Windows server versions, and want to move the Zetafax server as well without any user disruption?  It could be you just want to follow how we are keeping Zetafax up to date?  If any of these sound like you then read on.

Using Brooktrout boards and SR140 with Windows Server 2012 R2

Are you using Brooktrout fax boards or the SR140 Edition of the Zetafax Fax over IP (FoIP) Connector?  Are you running your Zetafax Server on Windows Server 2012 R2?

The initial release of Zetafax 2014 did not support the use of Brooktrout fax boards and SR140 software on Windows Server 2012 R2, as Dialogic had not yet certified the Brooktrout drivers for that platform.

Dialogic released an update for the Brooktrout drivers earlier this year which was certified for use on Windows Server 2012 R2 – driver version 6.7.0.  We released an update for Zetafax 2014 containing these in July, and this has now been replaced with the latest update for the Brooktrout drivers (version 6.7.1) which also supports this platform.

We are unaware of any issues caused by running Zetafax 2014 initial release software with Windows Server 2012 R2.  However, we would recommend that customers running Zetafax 2014 on that platform using Brooktrout boards or the Zetafax FoIP Connector (SR140 Edition) should install one of these driver updates to ensure their system is fully supported by Dialogic.

The Brooktrout driver 6.7.1 update for Zetafax 2014 is available for free to all customers with a current Zetafax Software Assurance contract.  For more information read this technote.

New Brooktrout low profile TR1034 boards

Fax boards are still a great solution for systems installed on a physical server computer that use direct phone lines or extension lines.  As the market leader in this area, Dialogic’s Brooktrout fax boards have an enviable reputation for connectivity, performance and reliability.  For many years Equisys and our partners have recommended Brooktrout TR1034 and Trufax boards and many thousands of Zetafax customers rely on them for their business faxing.

Dialogic have recently introduced some new boards to the Brooktrout TR1034 range.  The new boards are lower profile (narrower) than the previous boards, enabling them to be used in smaller format server boxes and higher density systems.

These boards require the latest version of the Brooktrout drivers, version 6.7.1.  We have published an update for Zetafax 2014 with these drivers.  If you wish to use one of these new low‑profile boards with Zetafax 2014, you should install this update on your Zetafax Server first, before installing and configuring the board.

The Brooktrout driver 6.7.1 update for Zetafax 2014 is available without charge to all customers with a current Zetafax Software Assurance contract.  This technote provides further information.

I always welcome feedback on our Zetafax products and supporting services because most product changes are made as a result of feedback from our customers and other partners, so your views really do make a difference.

Please drop me an email, or contact me via your Equisys account manager.  I look forward to hearing from you!
