FIX: Printing to the Zetafax Printer causes documents to lose formatting

Print

ZTN1114

ID: ZTN1114

This Zetafax technical note applies to:

  • Zetafax 5.5 and later

Symptom

When printing documents containing tables and other formatting to the Zetafax printer using applications such as Microsoft Word & Excel, the resulting fax document has formatting errors, e.g. the entries in a table within a word document become misaligned.

Cause

Some applications have problems maintaining or adjusting aspect ratio correctly when printing into a square format (200x200) fax file.

Resolution

The resolution to this problem will depend on the version of Zetafax and client operating system. Follow the instructions in the relevant section below.

Zetafax 7.1 or later

Windows 98.

As this version of the printer driver is not configured to be part of the installation, this update needs to be applied on a workstation-to-workstation basis.

  1. Run WKSETUP on the client PC if the Zetafax client is not already installed.
  2. Print a document to the Zetafax printer, and verify that the document is successfully submitted to the Zetafax server. Once submitted restart the client PC (this step is necessary to complete the installation of the driver).
  3. After the PC has restarted navigate to the, \windows\system directory and rename the ZFPRI8.DRV file to ZFPRI8.OLD.
  4. Use Explorer and browse to \\zetafax_server\zfax\SYSTEM\I386 folder, where 'zfax ' is the name of the share where the Zetafax server files are installed. Copy ZFPRI8SQ.DRV to the \windows\system folder and rename it ZFPRI8.DRV
  5. Print the document previously causing the formatting problems to ensure the new driver resolves the issue.
  6. Repeat this procedure for each client PC running Windows 98 and experiencing the symptom above.

Windows 2000 and NT4.

The graphic resolution used by Zetafax printer driver on these operating systems, may be configured from the 'Printers' applet in Control panel.
