This Zetafax technical note applies to:
- Zetafax version 9.1 and later.
- Note: Zetafax 2009 and later do not support TR114
Summary
The following is a list of error and warning messages that may be generated by the Brooktrout initialisation programs BTAINIT.EXE and BTBINIT.EXE when running the Zetafax server program.
Where appropriate, suggestions are made as to the causes of these messages and what can be done to resolve them.
More information
Common error and warning messages
Error/Warning Message |
Cause and Resolution |
Brooktrout fax boards only supported under Windows NT4 or higher |
Brooktrout fax boards are not supported in pre-Windows NT4 server Operating Systems. |
Devbta.exe (TR114 and Analogue Trufax) error and warning messages
Error/Warning Message |
Cause and Resolution |
Invalid PCI-ISA device combination detected. |
Zetafax does not support a combination of TR114 and Trufax Analog ISA and PCI boards in the same machine.
These card types must be all one type. |
Brooktrout TR114 and Trufax Analog fax boards are not supported on Windows XP |
Only TrxStream boards, such as the TR1034 and Trufax BRI, are supported by Zetafax under Windows XP Professional. |
Cannot find Brooktrout driver |
The bfax.sys Brooktrout driver could not be located. Btainit.exe expects to find this driver in one of the following locations:
< windows folder> \bfax\
< windows folder> \system32\drivers\
If the driver is not in one of these locations, it may not be installed correctly. Please refer to the installation guide for further information. |
ISA board setting is true/false |
Indicates whether the initialisation program thinks you are using an ISA or PCI device.
If this is reported incorrectly, check the following:
- The Devbta.exe line in the [SERVER] paragraph in setup.ini should have a /I switch if the installed boards are ISA-based.
- The ISABoard setting in the individual device paragraphs will be set to 'Yes' if the board is configured as being ISA-based. |
Failed to construct BtroutFaxInit.IN |
For PCI devices, create a blank file called BtroutFaxInit.IN in the < Zetafax install folder> \SERVER \ area and restart the Zetafax Server.
For ISA boards, please contact your technical support. |
Failed to start FAXINIT.EXE |
Ensure that the file FAXINIT.EXE exists in the < Zetafax install folder> \SERVER\ folder. |
Devbtb.exe (TR1034 and Trufax BRI) error and warning messages
Error/Warning Message |
Cause and Resolution |
Cannot find Boston driver or Boston device |
The program btbinit.exe could not find one of the following:
- an installed Boston device
- a copy of boston.sys on the machine
Other messages generated around this message (see below) provide further information as to exactly what has happened. |
No Boston devices were automatically detected. |
The program btbinit.exe could not detect any Boston (TRxStream) devices installed in the machine. Please check the following:
- There is a board installed
- The boards module number is set to a value between 2 and f. See the board installation instructions for further details on how to do this.
If it's an older TR1034 board, please also refer to technote ZTN1397-HOWTO Configure older TR1034 Brooktrout boards. |
Boston board detected, but no driver found. |
A Boston board with working channels is installed in the machine, but the boston.sys file could not be found.
To resolve this issue, enter Device Manager and update the Brooktrout Board driver, pointing it at the trxstream.inf file. This is located on the Zetafax CD and in the < Zetafax install folder\SERVER\Boston\ folder on the local hard-drive. |
Dead Brooktrout module n detected. |
The Brooktrout board with module n cannot be used by Zetafax. The module may be faulty. Try using the board with the Brooktrout FaxVoiceDiag.exe program (available on the Zetafax CD) to determine if it is operational. |
Module n exists, but the firmware could not be downloaded to it. |
The Brooktrout board with module n was found but the firmware could not be downloaded to it. The module might be faulty. Try using the board with the Brooktrout FaxVoiceDiag.exe program (available on the Zetafax CD) to determine if it is operational. |
Failed to start CONFIGTOOL.EXE |
The BrooktroutConfiguration Tool (configtool.exe) could not be found.
This tool is installed by the Boston.msi package which is shipped in the Zetafax installation and automatically installed when you add a TRxStream device (Tr1034/Trufax BRI). To install this tool, try the following:
- Run the Zetafax Configuration program and add your Brooktrout TR1034 or Trufax BRI board through the Device Wizard. This will install the boston.msi if it is not present on the system.
- Install the Boston.msi manually from the < Zetafax install folder> \SERVER\Boston\trxstream\ folder. |
