PRB: Cannot add a Brooktrout device when a FOIP device is configured to use the same number of channels as there are lines available

Print

ID: ZTN1863

This Zetafax technical note applies to:

  • Zetafax 2011

Symptom

On using the Zetafax Configuration program to add a Brooktrout device to a Zetafax Server which already has a FOIP device configured, you may receive the following error:

“Number of licensed devices exceeded. You must either add more lines or license SR140 to continue.”

This will occur when the FOIP device is configured to use the same number of channels as there are available lines.

Cause

This is an issue with the way the licensing is validated.

Resolution

A workaround is available for this issue:

  1. Stop the Zetafax Server if it is running.
  2. Open the Zetafax Configuration program and reduce the number of channels which the FOIP device uses to less than the available lines.
  3. Add the Brooktrout device with only one channel configured.
  4. Browse to the folder \Zetafax Server\System\Z-DB\ and locate the Setup.ini file.
  5. Edit Setup.ini under the [DEVICES] section to configure the required number of channels for each device.
  6. Ensure the FOIP device appears above the Brooktrout device in the Setup.ini.
  7. Restart the Zetafax Server.

Status

This has been identified by Equisys as a problem with the software versions given above.
