PRB: MFC42.DLL error when starting the Zetafax Client Print ZTN1095 ID: ZTN1095 This Zetafax technical note applies to: Zetafax 5.5 and later. Symptom When attempting to launch the Zetafax client, you may get the following error message: "Ordinal not found in dynamic library file MFC42.DLL." or a similar message mentioning the file MFC42.DLL. Cause Like many other Windows applications, the Zetafax client uses the Microsoft library file MFC42.DLL. There are several different versions of this file. On some PC's, the version installed by Zetafax (version 6.0.8447.0) may be overwritten when a new application is installed. The Zetafax client is then unable to start up. Resolution To resolve this problem, follow these steps: Close down all applications on the client PC. Search for the file MFC42.DLL on the local machine and rename any instances of it to MFC42.DLL.OLD. Navigate to the \zfax\SYSTEM\I386 folder, where 'zfax' is the name of the directory where the Zetafax server files are installed. This folder contains the correct copy of MFC42.DLL. Copy the MFC42.DLL file from the \i386 folder to the location it was in on the client PC. Restart the client PC and check that all the applications, including the Zetafax client, are functioning correctly. Status This has been identified by Equisys as a problem with the software versions given above. Last updated: 30 November 2000 (ET/DH)
