PRB: Rendering add-on breaks RTF message formatting

This Zetafax technical note applies to:
- Zetafax Server Version 8 and later
- Rendering add-on (Doctiff)
Symptom
When the rendering add-on is installed and no Rich Text Format (RTF) applications are configured in the mail gateway, and fax messages are sent from Outlook with the Zetafax message format set to 'RTF' or 'Optimized', and the message contains special formatting characters which should be rendered by an RTF renderer, the message is instead rendered as plain text and the special formatting characters are lost.
Cause
If no Rich Text Format applications are configured in the mail gateway, the gateway strips out the RTF-formatted message because it does not correctly recognise that the rendering add-on is present and able to render the RTF message.
Resolution
Update the gateway driver.ini file as follows:
- Open the driver.ini file from zfax\mail\Data
- Locate the [General] section in the file
- Change the RTF_Used setting from 0 to 1
- Restart the Zetafax server to make changes.
Note: that if you modify the gateway's configured rendering applications in the Zetafax Configuration, this parameter will be set back to 0.
Status
This has been identified by Equisys as a problem with the software versions given above.
