PRB: Unable to send SMS alerts to +44 prefixed numbers with certain SIM cards Print ZTN2013 ID: ZTN2013 This Zetalink technical note applies to: Zetalink version 1.0 Symptom When sending SMS messages, the communications server (Zetafax) passes the message to DEVSMS, which starts sending the message (the device status changes to 'sending'), but then fails giving a generic 'COMMUNICATIONS PORT FAULT' error. Cause Some SIM cards (as used in the GSM modem/phone) do not seem to accept destination phone numbers in canonical format ('+44.'). This error has been reported with a number of SIM cards from the Orange network. Resolution If users are entering their SMS numbers in canonical format ('+44.'), change the number format. For example change '+447712345678' to '07712345678'. This is achieved by editing the numbers on the Zetalink User Configuration pages (http://name_of_server/ZetalinkUser) whilst logged on as that user. Status This has been identified by Equisys as a problem with the software versions given above. Last updated: 15 November 2001 (GS/DH)
