This Zetalink technical note applies to:

  • Zetalink version 1.0

Setting up rule - please wait!

Updating Exchange

Error creating/editing rule (unable to update rule properties - (0x81650509))

Cause

This is a generic error message, with several known causes. In most cases the cause of the issue is security permissions on the EventConfig system folder in Microsoft Exchange. If you have recently altered security settings on this folder you will need to review these in line with the instructions in technical note ZTN2001-HOWTO: Prepare Microsoft Exchange prior to installing Zetalink.

It is also possible, although very remote, that the Zetalink Exchange components are unable to add event bindings to the users mailbox.

Resolution

Once you have confirmed the permissions on the EventConfig folder are correct, follow the instructions below to resolve the specific users problem:

  1. Ensure that you are logged into the client machine as the Zetalink user whose account is producing the error.
  2. Launch Internet Explorer and navigate to the Zetalink User Configuration page. The Welcome screen is displayed confirming the user you are logged on as.
  3. Delete all rules if any exist, you will need to make a note of these if you wish to recreate them again. Close Internet Explorer.
  4. Launch Outlook and navigate to the 'Other' tab (Tools|Options menu). Click on the 'Advanced Options' button to display the 'Advanced Options' dialog.
  5. Click on the 'Add-In Manager..' button and select the 'Server Scripting' check box on the 'Add-In Manager' dialog. Click OK to save changes.

  1. Escape out of the 'Options' dialog and right click the Inbox, selecting 'Properties' from the menu.
  2. Choose the 'Agents' tab and delete the Zetalink event binding displayed.

  1. Repeat steps 6 and 7 for the user's Calender folder.
  2. Launch Internet Explorer and navigate to the Zetalink User Configuration page. The Welcome screen is displayed confirming the user you are logged on as.
  3. Add a new e-mail alert rule and confirm it is added with no errors.
  4. Right click the Outlook Inbox, selecting 'Properties' from the menu and choose the 'Agents' tab to confirm the Zetalink event binding now exists.
