This Zetafax technical note applies to:
Summary
This document, details issues in previous versions Zetafax 7 that have been addressed in this release.
Fixes in this release
The Zetafax client install program (WKSETUP.EXE) is installed when you update the Zetafax server, in the \zfax\SYSTEM\ directory on the Zetafax server PC. As these are client side fixes, it then needs to be run on each client computer, to update the Zetafax client.
- Unable to release held faxes.
Faxes submitted with ZSUBMIT (Zetafax automatic submission program) can now be released with the Zetafax client.
- Preview fax not cleared down.
When a fax was deleted the preview file was not deleted (e.g. because it is being viewed). It would be possible to view the older fax with the same file name instead of a newly submitted fax. The preview file is now deleted when submitting a new fax.
- Incompatibility between the Zetafax client and Internet Explorer version 5 removed.
During the Zetafax client initialisation on certain systems, ZETAFAX.EXE caused a stack fault in COMCTL32.DLL. This problem is known to occur when Internet Explorer version 5 or later is installed on Windows 95 and 98 platforms, and where one or more of the Zetafax client's in, out and filed windows are empty, and either turned off or very small.
- Zetafax client fax addressing issue.
It is no longer possible to queue a fax for sending without addressing it, if more than one fax number was selected from the previous recipients list, and the 'Add to list' button was not used.
This also fixes the address book and add an entry from the previous recipients list issue, where previously the name would be removed but not the company name and fax no.
- Zetafax client exit when minimised issue.
The possibility for the Zetafax client to cause an invalid page fault when closed from minimised on Windows 98 has been removed.
- Zetafax client window retains the user-defined size.
While using the Zetafax client, if you maximise the viewer window and then close and reopen Zetafax, the viewer window is back to its default size.
- Support for saving annotated faxes.
The Zetafax client now supports saving annotations with the fax message.
- Zetafax client warning on application servers removed.
The Zetafax client warning: "Unable to map alternative spool area - faxes printed in a thin client session will not be processed" has been removed if the client's user area has been successfully assigned as the spool path using the "SUBST" command.
- New Zetafax client for Citrix WinFrame.
The Zetafax 16 bit client has been replaced with a 32 bit client optimised to run on Citrix WinFrame and has resolved the following issues:
- Stack overflow when saving a fax image with a transmission report.
- Release preview for sending dialog causes the client to hang if you click 'no'.
- Preview icon not visible.
- Invalid page fault when saving a forwarded fax.
These issues are resolved by applying the Zetafax update (ZFUPD_V71.EXE). This is available on the Equisys web site www.equisys.com/updates as a separate download for Zetafax 7 users.
Zetafax server.
- Brooktrout support for dual processor machines.
The Brooktrout device driver (DEVBT) is now supported on dual processor Zetafax servers.
- DEVCAPI.EXE number handling.
The Zetafax Active ISDN controller device driver (DEVCAPI) now accepts commas in fax number.
- DEVCAPI.EXE optimisation.
When getting 'another application got the call message', DEVCAPI went into 'Error' state. DEVCAPI now copes with this issue.
- Can't create coversheets with Italian Coversheet editor.
The Coversheet editor (COVERDIT) uses special Merge fields to display custom information on the cover page. These fields must be in English to work correctly but were translated into Italian in error.
- Save coversheets button caption.
The 'Save' button on the 'Save as' dialog in COVERDIT had no caption in German, French and Italian.
- DEVFC.EXE optimisation.
The Zetafax modem device driver (DEVFC) no longer uses 100% of the systems processor time when sending a fax without any header information and the system default locale is set to Greek or Russian.
- BFAXINIT.EXE support for long file names.
The Brooktrout intelligent fax board initialisation program (BFAXINIT) now supports installations to directories with long names that contain spaces.
- EPSTIFF.EXE 47 line issue with %%[Landscape] command fixed.
If a text file contained the %%[Landscape] command on the first line, and 47 lines of text below it, the TIFF message file converter program (EPSTIFF) would distort the image with a number of horizontal scan lines.
- EPSTIFF.EXE optimised for bulk fax jobs.
The TIFF message file converter program (EPSTIFF) has been better optimised for large fax shots on all supported platforms.
These issues are resolved by applying the Zetafax update (ZFUPD_V71.EXE). This is available on the Equisys web site www.equisys.com/updates as a separate download for Zetafax 7 users.
Zetafax configuration.
- E-mail gateway delivery destination issue.
When a Zetafax user was configured with the e-mail gateway for Microsoft Exchange to receive mail notifications to their Zetafax inbox, faxes get routed to their Outlook inbox instead. This occured if the 'Include faxes sent by Zetafax client in Outlook Zetafax Outbox' checkbox was also checked.
- Zetafax configuration snap-in application error.
The Zetafax configuration snap-in crashes when enabling a user from the email gateway users or NT users containers and then immediately selecting Zetafax users container to add another user.
- Erroneous licence warning removed when enabling users.
Enabling users one after the other during the e-mail gateway install caused the Zetafax configuration to throw a 'This will exceed your licence by xxx users.' error.
- Zetafax configuration snap-in display error.
The Zetafax configuration snap-in did not correctly display the status of the 'Include faxes sent by Zetafax client in Outlook Zetafax Outbox ' checkbox.
- Unable to register Zetafax when organisation includes accented characters.
The mechanism used to generate and check licence registration codes could give inconsistent results when the organisation name contained extended (accented) characters. The mechanism has been changed for organisation names with extended characters.
- Swedish registration centre fax number change.
The registration fax number for Sweden has been changed from 084409191 to 084705740.
- Enhanced LCR security.
The Zetafax Least Cost Routing (LCR) link configuration now supports alphanumeric passwords.
- LCR e-mail link optimisation.
LCR configuration resolves link mail addresses in name@domain.com format, and need not be address book resolved.
- Brooktrout configuration.
The Brooktrout intelligent fax board configuration dialog has been optimised for a 640x480 screen resolution, and the text refined for easier configuration of high-density solutions (PRI).
These issues are resolved by applying the Zetafax update. This is available on the Equisys web site www.equisys.com/updates as a separate download for Zetafax 7 users.
Zetafax e-mail gateway.
- E-mail gateway optimisation.
When a large number of faxes were submitted via the e-mail gateway at one time, processing of these messages would gradually slow down beyond the set polling time. This problem has now been resolved by modifying the processing mechanism. This mechanism can be turned off if needed by adding the line below to the zfax\MAIL\DATA\DRIVER.INI file in the 'General' section, where 'zfax' is the name of the directory where the Zetafax server files are installed.
FindOldestFile=1
- E-mail gateway optimisation.
The e-mail gateway program (STM32) has been optimised to reduce the load on the system processor.
- E-mail gateway time zone issue removed.
The first mail message sent through the mail gateway after a restart on a Zetafax server with time zone set to more than GMT +1, would cause an invalid page fault in STM32.EXE.
- Rendering support for Bitmaps and JPEG's on Windows 2000.
Images attached to e-mails are now rendered directly by the e-mail gateway on Windows 2000, as Kodak Imaging does not support automated printing.
- Automatic printing enhanced to support file forwarding formats.
Automatic printing of received faxes now supports the "MailSendFormat" option. This option allows received faxes to be forwarded as standard image file formats through the e-mail gateway. See \zfax\system\z-db\SETUP.WRI (where 'zfax' is the name of the directory where the Zetafax server files reside) for the supported list of file formats.
- Easier configuration for e-mail gateway with Lotus Domino R5.
The e-mail gateway is able to locate the path to NNOTES.DLL on a R5 Domino without specifying in the path statement.
- Support for the Zetafax Outlook extensions foreign versions.
This removes the " PVT root folder not found" error on Italian versions of Microsoft Outlook when configuring the Zetafax extensions.
- Error 2 removed when configuring the e-mail gateway.
Clicking OK on the e-mail gateway configuration dialog no longer causes "Error 2" message.
- Better error logging.
The e-mail gateway reports more detailed errors in the Zetafax server log for messages that fail the rendering process and for users attempting to submit messages to the e-mail gateway that are not authorised to do so.
These issues are resolved by applying the Zetafax mail gateway update (ZFMAILGATEWAY_V71.EXE). This is available on the Equisys web site http://www.equisys.com/ as a separate download for Zetafax 7 mail gateway users.
Zetafax Outlook Extensions.
The Zetafax Outlook extension install program (ZFOUTEXT.EXE) is installed when you install the Zetafax connector, in a "Personal Folder" in Outlook on the Microsoft Exchange server PC. As this is a client update, it then needs to be run on each client computer, which has the Outlook extensions installed.
- Recipients are not added to previous recipients.
If two copies of the 'New Fax' form provided with the Zetafax Outlook Extensions where open, no fax recipients were not added to the 'Previous Recipients' list.
- Some recipients are not added to previous recipients.
Recipient's fax numbers containing brackets () to separate the area code were not added to previous recipients.
- Incorrect handling of delayed send time on release fax dialog.
The feature for sending a fax after a given time was not supported correctly by the release fax dialog. The time used was treated as GMT, and so on systems where the Microsoft Exchange server is not set to GMT the fax would not be sent at the correct time.
These issues are resolved by applying the Zetafax 7.1 connector for Microsoft Exchange , available for download on the Equisys web site www.equisys.com/updates for Zetafax 7 users.
