Zetafax Email Gateway for Lotus Notes

This section gives an overview of using the Zetafax Email Gateway with Lotus Notes, and step-by-step instructions for configuring the Zetafax Email Gateway for Lotus Notes. It assumes that a Zetafax Server has been installed and is running on your network.

The installation process requires configuration of both the Zetafax Server using Zetafax Configuration and the Lotus Notes Domino server administration tools. We recommend that the person who configures the Email Gateway for Lotus Notes is familiar with both programs.

Introduction

The Zetafax Email Gateway may be used with Lotus Notes version 5 to 8.0, and is supported under Windows Server 2012, 2008 or 2003. There is a single component to the Email Gateway when using it with Lotus Notes: an email submitter program. The Lotus Notes Domino server will also need some additional configuration to prepare it for use with Zetafax.

Email submitter

The submitter program is a Zetafax Server module that runs on the fax server machine alongside the other Zetafax Server modules. Its function is to monitor both outgoing messages from the gateway which are submitted to the Zetafax Server's queue, and incoming fax messages which are passed to the Lotus Notes database.

Extra requirements

The Email Gateway requires installation of a Lotus Notes client on the same machine as the Email Gateway itself; i.e. the Zetafax Server PC.

You will also need to use the Lotus Notes Domino server administration tools to install a router mailbox and a foreign domain on the Lotus Notes Domino server, and to dedicate a user account for use with the gateway.

Separate fax server

The Zetafax Server can either be run on the same computer as the Lotus Notes Domino server or on a separate PC elsewhere on the network. Whichever set up you choose, you must install a Lotus Notes client on the Zetafax Server PC.

The installation procedure described here is applicable to either scenario.

Overview

To install the Zetafax Email Gateway for Lotus Notes, you will need to follow the steps below, and which are described in further detail later in this section. See the Related topics for more information.

•Choose the Lotus Notes Domino server and domain on which you wish to install the gateway and install a router mailbox and foreign domain for the gateway.

•Install a full Lotus Notes client on the Zetafax Server PC.

•Set up the Email Gateway using the Zetafax Configuration program, register the email system, and test the connection to the Lotus Notes Domino server.

•Install the email rendering printer driver and any rendering applications.

•Configure Zetafax users to use the Email Gateway.

The descriptions of Lotus Notes in this section are taken from Lotus Notes release 6.0. Although details may differ between this and earlier versions, the underlying principles of configuring and using Lotus Notes with the Zetafax Email Gateway remain the same.
